In 1985, Russell was signed to his first professional record contract with EMI Records and recorded the song “Shot Through The Heart” with the band “Surgin”.

The song was co-written by Jon Bon Jovi (with Jon Bon Jovi singing background vocals).  In 1987, Russell joined the band “Prophet” and received a second record deal with Atlantic Records recording the song “Sound of a Breaking Heart” in 1988.  The video of the song “Sound of a Breaking Heart” was in a medium rotation on MTV in 1989.

In the early to late 1990’s Russell had the honor and pleasure being the lead vocalist in the one of the biggest rock cover bands ever “Edgar Cayce”.  Russell has earned recent success with the songs from his original projects made with the bands “The Way” and “Friction” in 2005 / 2006.  Some of the songs with these bands are presently being used as background music for “The Real World” and other shows on MTV, MTV2, and VH1.

Russell has been a member of Double Take since 2003 and enjoys the wide range of music and versatility that he and the other vocalists have, with performing in Double Take.
